Highlights of the day for me included getting to play with smoke bombs (who else is going to let me do this?!), photographing the most amazing and emotional first look and daddy/daughter dance between Breanne and her dad. But above all, it was just a thrill to meet two people so well suited for each other as Breanne and Nick are. Not only to meet them, but get to hang out with them all day and photograph the culmination of their love story. It just leaves me with the very ineloquent feeling of "Wow". Wow, this is my job. Wow, am I lucky. Wow, love is cool.
Spring in Iowa could be a day or a week but either way, when it’s here you know it and you love it. When I think of our brief spring of 2018, I think of Ashley + Dustin’s wedding day. Seriously, these two kicked off my local Iowa season with a bang. They wed on the perfect May day in the heart of Burlington and Ashley took all my DIY dreams to a whole other level. You know those kind of people who are like “Yeah…I can make that” about EVERYTHING? Ashley is one of them! These hand-crafted details are what can make a wedding so unique and special….
There were so many highlights of this day, including an emotionally charged ceremony where Brock saw his bride for the first time as she walked down the aisle and the parents of the couple stood up and prayed for them. Another was when Brock danced with his mom later on in the night--the song was from Tarzan and yes, I was a hot mess of emotions. Who gave them permission to use Phil Collin's You'll be in my Heart in that beautiful way?? Another memorable moment was when we attempted the "Dirty Dancing" lift…
I knew Christine from high school and it was such a privilege to be contacted by her to shoot her wedding. She and JT have one of the most open, deep connections I've ever witnessed in a couple. They're not afraid to be goofy, be sad, be mushy. They are just as happy climbing fences together as they are dancing or having a migraine or hike hills with their crazy photographer at sunset. I just love people like that.
This wedding was so special to me for so many reasons and I’m just gonna list a few because you know, pics. I don’t know if I’ve met nicer, more gracious people than Maria and Lance. They and their family treated me like a lifelong friend all day long and yeah, while it’s nice to shoot a gorgeous couple in a gorgeous place on a gorgeous, 70 degree day, you know what’s even better?
