Kora | New to the World

December, 2016

Hi guys, it's Melissa. I'm taking a moment out of my usual bride and groom routine to let you in on a different aspect of my work.

I am asked all the time "Do you only do weddings?" my answer is always honest and here it is: yes, couples are my bread and butter. I love them, I like photographing them and it's my gift. I'm good at documenting that specific realm of life. But life isn't all about getting engaged and it's not even all about a wedding (whoa, right?). Every point of life is a season and I don't feel confined to just one part of it. If you're a part of my tribe, that means you want to pursue beauty through authenticity. It means you're over the cheesy posing and you're way over the big, fake smiles and airbrushed faces. You just want memories as they happen. Sweet. Simple. Not always perfect but always, always, always valuable. If I've just described you and what you're looking for in a photographer just now, I will be over the moon (really, blissfully happy) to photograph pretty much any part of you and your loved ones in any season of life.

The session below, while totally precious and I love it, is so much more than a simple newborn session I recently shot. It represents a new direction for me when it comes to non-wedding and engagement sessions. Natural, intimate, organic and at home is how I will be approaching all of my newborns from now on, which really just means I will be capturing every single session whether it's engagement, family or newborn in the same way and same spirit. I'm so pleased to say that Kora's session exemplifies perfectly my new approach to babies, the families who love them and really just life outside of rings and veils. Miss Kora was just 10 days new when I photographed her and her delighted parents on a cold, sunny December day. We started with just hanging out, documenting her feeding, changing and being cuddled and then had two brief and simple "set ups" to show off a cool floor her parents had painted together and try something new with flowers that didn't scream "Christmas baby!!!" She was perfectly docile, chubby and sweet, tolerating lots of moving around and cooing over her lucious hair and delicious toes. And to be honest, her parents, Jaime and Andrew rocked it out too. Enjoy!

XO,

Melissa
