SAN DIEGO COUPLES SESSION AT BLACKS BEACH

Some y’all may not know, but I’m originally from the great, sunny state of California—Northern California lol but still. So when my husband and I visited in December 2020 for a working vacation, I knew I had to take advantage of the gorgeous art and beaches.

Lucky for me, a childhood friend of mine had gifted her sister Amber a couples photoshoot from me and we were able to connect. She and her partner Olumbe totally trusted me when I asked for an urban vibe and then the classic sunset beach photos that if you’re in Southern California, you just gotta do. So I went off to my best friend, Google maps, looking for any colorful or interesting art in the San Diego area and boom, I found the Murals of La Jolla—cute street art scattered about the suburban city. I believe the one we stuck with was in an unassuming parking lot next to a dojo, just proving that if you look hard enough, beauty is absolutely everywhere.

After we maxed out the mural, we headed to Blacks Beach just in time for sunset. Due to it being the COVID world we live in, the cold (by CA standards haha) and windy evening was crowded with lots of folks social distancing and watching the sunset so we stuck to areas with the tide that I can’t lie, did feel icy in December. Amber and Olumbe were TOTAL champs though, and frolicked in the surf with me and trusted all my artsy fartsy ideas. One of my favorite photos is of Amber and Olumbe looking off to the west at the setting sun as a surfer strolls with his board between us. It’s just such a great picture of the microcosm that is the San Diego lifestyle and area.

Who wants to run around with me in San Diego next time?!

XO,
Mel
